I am sorry I haven’t posted in a few days. Trust me I wanted to but I was up at the cabin for a few days because our wood floors were getting done. They are nice and shiny now. We will see how well they hold up to our dogs. Anyways, I got some big news that I am very excited to share with you all. I cant stop smiling and talking about it. I…

I got my drivers license! Yes, seriously. Let me go back to Wednesday. The day when I went back to the motor vehicle place to retake my written test. I studied hard but I still wasnt feeling very confident. I know I wasnt letting myself feel positive about it because I didnt want to deal with the failure again. The time before when I failed really got me down. I was very mad at myself and couldnt really stand being me. Its because I am really hard on myself. I dont accept imperfection for myself very often. But last Wednesday was different. I sat down at the computer. Took a deep breath and took the test. At the end of the test it either says disqualified or passed. I couldnt believe what popped up at the end of mine. I looked at each person next to me smiling but they were too focused on their tests to notice my excitement. Even my eyes were smiling. Thats right, I passed!

When I went out into the other room to tell my mom the good news I decided to trick her. I tried to keep a serious face. It was hard though but she did think I had tears in my eyes but I didnt. She made her sad face at first thinking I failed but then I told her that I passed. What can I say. I cant stay serious for long when I have such exciting news to share. We were so happy but in the back of my mind I was still dreading waiting months to take the drivers test. When we went to schedule for the road test the lady said there was an opening the next day or wait until the end of September. Ha! Wait until the end of Septemeber? No thank you! Next day it is.

Road test day comes and I am so ecstatic. Nervous but ready. The man who does the road test got in my car and I didnt feel that comfortable. I mean he didnt make me feel worse but he didnt make me feel less nervous. Anyways, the first thing we do is parallel parking. I have been practicing parallel parking for a long time and I am pretty good at it. I must of been pretty good because my mom let me practice with her car as the parked car and I never hit it. Except, at the test I did horrible at parallel parking. Okay, not horrible but he said I didnt get close enough to the curb. All I am going to say to that is it is easier to parallel park with actual cars instead of cones. After that I did the K turn aka the three point turn and I aced that. He must of felt I aced everything else and I was a safe driver because he passed me. I thanked him twice. He could of failed me for making the mistake at parallel parking but he passed me because everything else was excellent.

After going through the long torturous process of getting my license at the motor vehicle place, the fun began. It was time to go up to the cabin and not in one car. Thats right, my mom took her car and I took mine. I took Princess and Callie and mom took Lady, Oliver and the birds. My mom wasnt sure if she wanted to let me drive up there. You know, moms worry but I knew I was ready. I was nervous too but I did it. I made it up there and it was great having Princess with me. She road shotgun and enjoyed the ride. I was so proud of myself. I am a true driver!

So, mom was sick with a cold this weekend and she didn’t feel like doing much. Now, times like that are great reasons to have your license. I took Princess and Oliver to the dog park in the country twice and they had a blast. I am very happy that I finally got my license. I find driving relaxing. A way to escape the trouble times and just enjoy a good drive. Take Princess, blast some music, drive for awhile and I will feel better. I am still looking for my path but driving will help me do that. It will help me get where I want to go. Some may look down on me because it takes longer for me to accomplish things but being first isn’t always the best. So, watch out. Me, Princess and Baby Blue are coming!

  1. Great news Anna,Now please be extra careful as there are a lot of ‘nuts’ out there.Practice makes a novice driver better quicker, so ‘Beep’ ‘Beep’ off you go girl.

  2. Congrats. It has been a while since I have my drivers license but I understand the excitment. I am also away from home with my dog. Nice place near the beach, doing nothing

  3. YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!! Congratulations Anna! I’m so happy for you, because I know how very happy you are to have accomplished this exciting milestone! Fun adventures await you!

You are correct when you said, “…being first isn’t always the best.” There’s a quote, I’m not sure who said it, but it goes, “The race is not always to the swift but to those who keep on running. Always keep going after what you want Anna, even if at first it doesn’t come easily, and don’t ever give up on yourself or your dreams.

I hope you, Princess and Baby Blue spend many, many enjoyable, relaxing and safe times together cruising the open roads! Congrats Jersey girl!!

  6. Big congratulations! I doubt anyone can fully appreciate success without the experience of ‘failure’. Can you imagine how utterly boring it would be to NEVER fail at anything? Yikes! Be happy, be confident and help someone else thru their ‘failures’ in life… Be safe above all. Sal

  7. Well done Anna. Now remember the video you posted about what not to do when taking your driving test. These are good things to remember when you are actually driving as well. :o)
