The William Wegman Princess Project

A few days ago I had to finish a photography project for my photo class at school. The project was to photograph like a professional photographer and I chose William Wegman. You must know his work. He is the guy who photographs his weimeraners in clothes and make them have human characteristics. His dogs have been in books, galleries and on television.

I chose Princess as my model since she is most cooperative and has the most patience. Besides trying to lay down all the time she was a very good girl. Here are a few photos of her that are some of my favorite. I took so many and the rest will be on my flickr. To me she is better than the weimeraners but that is also because she is my Princess.

Cone Head Callie

Big news about Callie cat! She got spayed yesterday. My mom dropped her off at the vet yesterday morning and we picked her up this morning. Let me tell you, my room was really quiet last night without a wild cat running and jumping around. Peaceful but weird at the same time. Hehe. Anyways, she is back home now, with a cone on her head. Now two animals in this family have the cone of shame. Well, Lady will be able to have hers off soon. Callie has to keep hers on for at least ten days or more but she is doing pretty good surprisingly. Well, until she is back to herself than she might really not like it. I will have to give her some pain medicine soon but for now she can stay sleeping on my bed. Spoiled cat! I am happy the surgery went well and she is back home. Now, I am just going to enjoy the calm Callie before she turns back into her mischievous self. Meow!

Oliver the Super Duper Pooper

Oliver is a wonderful dog except he has one big downfall. He goes to the bathroom in the house. He is sneaky though! He wont do it when you are watching. He will all of a sudden come prancing into the living room licking his lips. Yes, when he poops, he eats it at times. Smelly and yucky! Anyways, my mom is getting really sick of our house smelling like urine and poop. So, we have a plan! Last two days my mom has kept him crated most of the time and she walks the dogs when we get home around threeish after school and work. Then I take them all for a walk at nine at night. Its only the beginning. When I graduate and am home I plan on having him crated or have him on a leash tied to me. I will take him out often and get him lots of exercise. Its going to be a challenge to get him trained since it seems like he has no knowledge that going to the bathroom outside is right and inside is wrong. I am up for the challenge and I will get this dog house trained. Bring it on little ver!

A Zoo Field Trip

The weather was wonderful for the zoo. The sun was shining high and the temperature was in the eighties. Just beautiful! We saw lots of animals and just was great to not be sitting in school doing work. I took about fifty photos but only a few were good enough. It was difficult at times to take photos because there were tons of people there and all the shadows of trees made the animals not come out good. Anyways, here are the photos and hope you enjoy.

Lady Lump

Lady went to the vet today and ended up coming home with a cone on around her neck. She was not very happy about it but she is getting use to it. So, why does she have a cone? Well, about a few weeks ago I noticed her licking and chewing at her foot constantly. The fur on her foot was turning to that rusty red color of saliva and I decided to carefully take a look at it. Guess what I found. A lump! I mean it was not like a lump under the skin. More like a little tumor that was growing. So my mom and I wanted to get it checked out as soon as possible. We dont want any ugly tumor growing on our beautiful Lady.

So, the vet gently checked Lady’s foot. Wonderful thing is Lady did not snap at all. Good thing we got a nice sweet women vet today. We are not exactly sure what the lump is yet. The vet gave us some medication to try for about a week or two to see if the lump becomes smaller. That will tell us if it is an infection. Also, the vet took a sample to send to a testing lab just in case its a cancerous mass or something else. Lets pray that its not.

Anyways, the cone is on her head to keep her from licking and irritating it. I know she looks so sad but she is doing so well. She has some difficulty getting around with a cone around her neck but she is getting use to it. Princess and Oliver still accept her. They just gotta make sure to not get in the way of the cone. Hehe. You know what I cant believe. On her vet record it says she is nine years old. I mean that is an estimate. We dont know her real age. We dont know any of the dogs ages since they are all adopted. We guess and make our own ages for them. Did you know I kept Princess at 6 years old for a few years? Thats right! Its the same thing I say about people. I dont judge by age. Thats not what makes a dog. Thats not the importance of dogs. The soul of a dog is what matters and Lady’s soul is beautiful. She will get well soon because she is one tough Lady!

Princess goes to school!

Leaving Princess in a cage in the morning at the tech school was difficult but she and I survived it. When I got back there in the afternoon she was so excited to see me. She was ready to claw her nails into my back so I could never leave her again. Before I started working on her everyone said hello to her and she LOVED that. Princess is not spoiled with food. She is spoiled with love and she shares the love too.

Princess cooperated pretty much while I groomed her. I gave her a nice bath which she needed badly. After that I blow dried her. I wasnt sure how she would react to that but she was good with it. Except, she did not like her face being blow dried. Anyways, grooming her I knew she would be pretty cooperative. Only thing she does not like done is her feet but that is common with a lot of dogs. The nice thing about Princess is she does not bite when she does not like something. She just stares at me with her big eyes, wondering if I will be done soon. Anyways, I do like how she turned out and she got a cookie after to thank her for the help. Now, I hope the two ladies who observed us all thought I did well. It was stressful but I accomplished it. So, what do you think of her new look?

Bye bye fluff

So, I spent my weekend up at the cabin with my mom and the dogs. The weather was great. Not too hot and not too cold. Perfect! My mom planted some trees and put some manure down. Let me tell ya. That stuff was da shit. Hehe. It sure stunk up the car. Almost couldnt breathe. Anyways, I got lots of exercise walking the dogs around the lake and they sure enjoyed it. They always have fun.

Guess what! I got some big news. I have my hands on test tomorrow for small animal care and guess who I am grooming. My girl, Princess! Yes, I am so excited. I get to bring Princess to my technical school tomorrow. Dropping her off in the morning before I go to my main school. She is going to hate me for leaving her in a cage alone until I get there at twelve in the afternoon. But then she is going to even hate me more when I bathe and groom her. I will make sure to give her lots of love and kisses during and after so she forgives me. Woot! I am excited. Dont worry I will show pictures of her all groomed and share with you how it went. Hope you all had a nice weekend and made some memories. I am going to curl up with my girl and get some sleep. Night.

Spunky Skinny Oliver

Besides catching up on sleep, I spent my Saturday grooming Oliver. He needed it badly. He was way overdue for a nice summer haircut. Oliver is pretty cooperative while getting groomed, besides trying to jump off the groomers table every minute. Thank goodness for a noose to hold this crazy boy up there. The only places he gets kinda aggressive with are his legs and face. I got his legs done but I decided to use scissors for his whole face because I did not want him to cut his tongue on the clippers. Thats the last thing I need! Good thing I am pretty good at styling with scissors.

Animal Career Future

So, I think I did pretty good on my written small animal care final. I am not too worried since I felt pretty confident with it. A lot of it was common sense for a knowledgeable animal lover and owner like myself. The next part of the final is in a few weeks and thats the hands on part where we groom a dog. Thats the part that kind of scares me more. A lot of perfection needed but I am pretty good at bathing, shave downs and rounding feet. Just can be difficult at times because every dog breed gets a different type of grooming and haircut. It can be hard but grooming has an artsy side to it.

Callie Still Intact

So, Callie the cat was suppose to get spayed Friday but that is on hold for now. We could not find her papers that said she got her rabies shot so we are waiting for them to send it to us. Also, she needs her distemper vaccine before they will spay her. But she will get spayed soon. Hopefully, before her first heat cycle comes along. I dont need her rolling, screaming or spraying all over my room.
